PRESENT:

"Friday - 17th - Anti-Fashion Show, Admission $10 (9pm)
The Anti-Fashion Show is a collaboration between Iris Billiter of Irisewn Design and Cheryl Carlson of Karma Rags, both located here at The Flying Monkey Arts Center. The show takes place on Friday, October 17th at 9 PM at The Flying Monkey Arts Center Theatre. A reception will follow where guests can relax and see featured work up close, select items to purchase, and place orders with designers.

Anti-fashion can mean many things. In this case it means gathering the work of local DIY [do-it-yourself] designers, plus vintage clothing and vintage blend clothing, then showcasing it in a dramatic runway show with music and incredible atmosphere. Anti-fashion is imaginative, dramatic and defies mainstream fashion ideals.

Do-It-Yourself designers take old clothing or discarded materials such as rubber or plastic and create new, exciting, and more relevant clothing. Our featured DIY designer is Iris Billiter who will present 10 new couture works created from vintage clothing originally offered in Karma Rags. Iris Billiter has created several other lines of dramatic DIY fashion and is well-known for her edgy runway shows. Other highly talented local DIY clothing artists will also present significant current works that will prove exciting in style and demonstrate excellence in design and craftsmanship.

Vintage and Vintage Blend features the unrivaled construction, timeless style and creativity of older clothing by presenting it in a contemporary setting. The clothing in this portion of the show will be directly from the floor of Karma Rags and is ready to wear. Vintage clothing, when well-crafted and designed, never goes out of fashion. Vintage blend, a more relaxed way of wearing vintage, mixes eras and can range from a flouncy frilly 1950's dress with combat boots to an early 1970's pointed collar shirt with new jeans. Many of the vintage and vintage blend pieces will be available for purchase.

Attending The Anti-Fashion Show is an important step you can take in re-considering how you view fashion. Anti-fashion is rebellious, sustainable, and challenges the way society has influenced our clothing selection. Anti-fashion aims to create a higher degree of individuality in how we cover ourselves and moves us to be more thoughtful about the resources, both human and non-human, that’s required in making mass-produced clothing. Anti-fashion is accessible, incredibly fun, and anyone can do it!
